Who We Are
Our group was founded as Veterans for Peace, Rogue Valley Chapter 156, in January 2008 in Grants Pass, but in 2023 we voted to disaffiliate from national Veterans For Peace and form Southern Oregon Peace Vets, a local organization with members from Gold Hill to Medford to Ashland. We are mostly Vietnam-era veterans, and we have associate members who are not vets but who want to support peace vets and our work.
Our Mission is to increase public awareness of the causes & costs of war; to restrain our government from intervening in the internal affairs of other nations; to resist racism & repression in our communities; to oppose the militarization of law enforcement; to end the nuclear arms race & work to eliminate nuclear weapons; to seek justice for veterans & victims of war; and to abolish war as an instrument of national policy.
To achieve these goals, we pledge to use non-violent means and to maintain an organization that is both democratic and open.
